The Vice-Chairman of Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs, Nurudeen Abatemi-Usman, has called on the people of Kogi Central Senatorial District to look out for candidates with absolute fear of God in the forthcoming local government election in the state.
Abatemi-Usman, a stalwart of Peoples Democratic Party, made this call when he visited the Ebira Central Community Development Association during their weekly meeting in Okene Local Government Area Secretariat.
In a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Michael Jegede, the senator, who is currently pushing a bill for the financial autonomy of local governments in the country, noted that only God fearing people can govern with conscience and transparency.
Abatemi-Usman, a member of Pan African Parliament, which is the legislative arm of the African Union, advised the people not to listen to those who have no focus and ideas, but are only interest in self-aggradizement.
The statement quoted the senator as saying: “While myself and my team are busy pushing for federal projects in our zone, i will be happy to see a situation where our efforts will be fully complemented by leaders at the local level in the interest of the people and the overall development of Ebiraland.
“We must therefore make sure that only God fearing people, who will work for the general good of the masses, are elected in the coming council poll, so that basic local needs will not be left for the senator.”
