Owners of wreaked vessels along the Lagos State waterfront have been given a 21-day ultimatum to evacuate them or be forced to pay the cost of evacuation by the Lagos State Government.
The state’s Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Prince Adesegun Oniru, said this in Lagos on Tuesday.
He said the move became necessary because of the environmental degradation and pollution caused by the vessels.
Oniru said it is hazardous to leave such poisonous substance in the country’s waterways.
He also added the consumption of fishes that have ingested the polluted water is harmful and poses a serious threat to human life.
