The Motor Dealers Association of Nigeria has said it would expose anyone who approached its members to transport illegal arms into the country.
The National Vice President of the association, Alhaji Muktari Mapia, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday in Sokoto.
Mapia said: “We have asked our members to report to us or the security agencies anyone who approaches them to transport illegal arms into the country.”
Mapia said the association had sensitised its members to the devastating effects of smuggling arms into the country.
He said the union had also resolved to mete out severe sanctions to any of its members involved in such shoddy deal.
Mapia said the union’s firm stance was part of its efforts to assist the government in its efforts to rid the country of illegal arms.
He promised that the body would work with the government to execute the “change” agenda so as to reposition the country for optimal performance.
Mapia promised that the association would continue to cooperate with Nigeria Customs Service, especially at the land borders, to ensure that prohibited goods were not smuggled into the country.
He said the union would continue to caution its members against transporting prohibited items into the country
