A 57-year-old palm oil trader, Abdul-Waqueel Oladejo, on Thursday, appeared before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State over alleged N3 million fraud.
The defendant, whose address was not given, is facing two counts, bordering on advance fee fraud and stealing.
The Police Prosecutor, ASP Zedekiah Orogbemi, told the court that the defendant, on August 27, 2023, around 11:30 am, at Mammy market in Okitipupa, Okitipupa magisterial district, committed the offences.
Orogbemi said that the defendant fraudulently obtained several drums of palm oil for the sum of N3 million from one Margaret Olowokunlepe under the false pretence of paying her after selling the palm oil, but failed to do so.
He stated that the defendant, after selling the palm oil, converted the money to her personal use.
According to him, the offences are contrary to and punishable under Sections 419 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
The Chief Magistrate, Cletus Ojuola, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N250,000, with two sureties in like sum.
Ojuola said that the sureties must be residing within the court’s jurisdiction and also show and present evidence of two years tax payment made to the state government.
He, thereafter, adjourned the case till February 27 for further hearing.
