Saudi Arabian government has returned N110 million to Katsina State government for some services not rendered to the state pilgrims during the 2017 hajj.
The Executive Director, state Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Muhammad Abu-Rimi, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday in Katsina while distributing the money to some of the pilgrims.
He said that some of the services not rendered included inability to provide pilgrims with food at airport by some companies and failure of a landlord to fix some facilities in his house where some pilgrims were accommodated in Makkah.
Abu-Rimi further said that the government also refunded funds to some pilgrims who were not able to complete hajj fares during the period.
He said: “These problems were not from our side, the Saudis noticed them and placed fine on the companies and person responsible.
“It directed those concerned that some money must be refunded to the pilgrims.
“The money was returned to the state through the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria.
“So, all state pilgrims who performed last year’s hajj will receive N8,540, while those who were accommodated at that house will be given additional N27,100.”
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that a total of 4,930 pilgrims performed the 2017 hajj from the state.
Some of the pilgrims interviewed expressed their appreciation and commended the Saudi Arabian government for the gesture.
