More than 14 coaches have applied for the vacant post of Head Coach of Giwa FC of Jos, Sam Adesoji, the Marketing Officer of the club, has said.
Adesoji, who is also interim assistant coach of the club, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday that the applicants were jostling to replace Abdullahi Biffo, who resigned from the club.
NAN recalls that Biffo resigned after the club’s proprietor, Chris Giwa, suspended the management following two consecutive home draws against Kano Pillars and Abia Warriors.
The proprietor mandated the goalkeeper trainer, Musa Aminu, to take charge of the team, with Adesoji as assistant.
The assistant coach, who declined to provide details, said: “I can only say that 14 coaches applied for job and details would be made known at the appropriate time.”
NAN reports that after the suspension of the club’s management, an interim leadership was appointed.
Since then, the team had drawn 1-1 against Dolphins of Port Harcourt in Port Harcourt, won 1-0 against Taraba United in Jalingo, and on April 23 defeated visiting Akwa United FC of Uyo 1-0 at Rwang Pam Stadium, Jos.
It garnered seven out of the available nine points in the encounters and is now placed fourth, with 12 points in the Nigeria Professional League.
Aminu, the interim coach, attributed the feat to God, adding: “The boys are still the same except that they were motivated to put in their best.
“And they have so far done very well.”
The coach solicited for the support of football fans in Plateau State, pledging not to let them down.
