The monarch of Igbodo Kingdom in Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta monarch I, has been presented a home-grown wife in line with the custom and tradition of his people.
The traditional ruler was bent on marrying a woman from Ebonyi State against the custom and tradition of his people before crisis erupted in the kingdom.
For eight months that the crisis lingered, the monarch was tracked down and chased out of his Kingdom, alongside the foreign woman.
Determined to carry on, the monarch smartly took a hotel room in Asaba, the state capital, with the Igbo woman and was enjoying his life.
It soon dawn on him that he was eating with pigs like the prodigal son, after the Governor of the state, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, via his office on chieftaincy affairs, headed by his deputy, Prof. Amos Utuama (SAN), waded into the matter
The monarchm at an action-packed ceremony held at the Ancestral Palace of Igbodo Kingdom, expressed gratitude to God for the peaceful resolution of all issues surrounding his marriage.
He acknowledged the wrong steps he took before throwing his Council-of-Chief into collision course and the entire community into crisis.
The traditional Prime Minister of Igbodo Kingdom, Dr. Ifeanyi Unomah, who accepted the woman on behalf of the people, said the turbulent period was over and thanked the monarch for adhering to their wise counsel.
Dr. Unomah said the choice of a daughter of the community as the queen preserves the culture and tradition of the kingdom
The Obi happily commended the way and manner the State Government waded into the matter, assuring the people that he would continue to uphold the customs and traditions of the Kingdom and appealed to the people to work towards the development of the community.
The royal father, who expressed delight over the unity of purpose that immediately pervaded the community, lauded the Obi-in-Council and the Igbodo Development Union, urging all never to compromise the peace and unity of the people.
Corroborating the Traditional Prime Minister, the President-General of Igbodo Development Union Worldwide, Chief Peterson Ozili-Chiemeke, said Igbodo yearned for the day and it has come.
He said “the controversies over the king’s marriage was a distraction”, expressing gratitude to God that the matter was resolved amicably.
Chief Ozili-Chiemeke paid glowing tribute to Utuama; the Obi of Owa Kingdom, Emmanuel Efeizamor II; the Obi of Umunede Kingdom, Agadagidi Ezenwani II; and the Transition Committee Chairman of Ika North-East Local Government, Princess Ijenwa Okunoke, for their personal intervention and interest towards the peaceful resolution of the matter.
A member of the Obi-in-Council, Chief Gilbert Nwaije, maintained that now that the marriage issue was over, attention would be on the development of the community.
The ceremony featured the decoration of the queen with beads by the Obi, who also led his wife to her seat in the palace as the queen of the community.
Several notable sons and daughters of Igbodo community, who witnessed the ceremony, also paid homage to the king and the wife.
