Dr. Dauda Lawal-Dare has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for Zamfara State in the court-ordered primaries for the 2023 elections.
The top rated banker and philanthropist won the court ordered rerun on Friday in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital.
Lawal-Dare polled 422 votes to emerge as the PDP candidate, beating Ibrahim Shehu and Hafiz Mohammed who got one vote each, while Wadatau Madawaki did not score a single vote.
The Chairman of the election committee, Hassan Hyet, pronounced Lawal-Dare as the winner of the primaries.
Hyet said: “Based on the rules and guidelines of the party, I have the singular honour to return Dr. Dauda Lawal-Dare as duly elected to be the flag bearer of Zamfara state PDP comes 2023.”
The rerun was ordered by the Federal High Court.
The court nullified the previous primaries from which Lawal-Dare emerged following the challenge of the outcome by three other aspirants.
The judgement was delivered by Justice Aminu Bappa of the Federal High Court, Gusau on Friday.
