A group under the auspices of Yobe Concerned Youth for Development on Thursday endorsed the candidature of Senator Ahmed Lawan for the position of Senate presidency.
Briefing newsmen, the Chairman of the group, Muhammad Kalli, said Lawan possess the required qualities, character and the frame of mind to make a qualitative Senate president
Kalli also maintained that Lawan has over the years demonstrated his commitment to the democratic values, which placed him as the most qualified aspirant for the leadership of the Senate.
According to the group, Lawan throughout his stay as a member of the House of Representatives as well as a senator gave his constituency an outstanding representation, which they hope he will extend to the country as Senate president.
The group said: “The country now more than any other time needs the calibre of leaders like Ahmad Lawan who has zero or no corruption record throughout his career as an academician or as a parliamentarian inspite of the fact that he is among the few longest serving members in the National Assembly.
“Our concern as youths who represent majority out of the 150 million Nigerians is that we do not want our effort of electing a credible president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to be of nothing for not electing the right person that will work with him as the head of the parliament to achieve good and profitable results for the country and if that happened, we the youth would be the most negatively affected.”
The group also pleaded with senators-elect to use their leadership judgment to resolve and elect Lawan as the Senate president to complement the efforts of Nigerians who sacrificed all in the last general elections for the continued survival and unity of the country.
“We are assuring the distinguished senators and all Nigerians that as they elect Senator Ahmad Lawan as Senate president, they are electing a man of integrity, service-oriented with zero tolerance to corruption and will not fail them and the nation in whatever respect,” they concluded.
