A Rwandan woman, Annonciata Kampororo, killed her husband after he inherited a widow whose husband was suspected to have died of AIDS, Xinhua reports on Wednesday.
According to the report, the woman, a liquor seller in Gisagara, killed her 48-year-old husband, Anaclet Majyambere, after he inherited his late brother’s wife.
It said the villagers and the police confirmed that the woman had strongly opposed her husband’s plans to inherit the widow, fearing that she would also become infected.
It said when the husband moved the widow to her home in accordance with traditional customs, she denied him his conjugal rights and demanded an HIV test first.
It said the husband refused the request, sparking constant friction and quarrels in the matrimonial home.
The report said when the woman got fed up and determined to protect herself against possible infection, she connived with her son and sister, who lived nearby, and hacked the husband to death.
Xinhua said on the fateful day, the husband had decided to refurbish the first wife’s house, replaced old iron sheets with new ones and decided to spend the night in the house.
It said an argument ensued at night, and in the ensuing commotion, the suspect’s sister and son dashed to the house thinking that the couple was under attack but killed the husband and dumped his body outside the house.
It said the local police have arrested the suspects who are likely to face murder charges. Xinhua/NAN.
