The Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, has disclosed that despite spending over N470 million to combat banditry and insecurity in the state, the challenges have not ended.
Bello lamented that the bandits terrorising the state have refused all the gestures to dialogue with them.
While baring his mind during a critical stakeholders meeting on the state of affairs in Niger State in Minna on Tuesday, Bello lamented that the bandits have become daring in unleashing terror and fear on the state and the people, adding that they have refused to engage in dialogue.
It would be recalled that in the last two weeks bandits had invaded and attacked over 10 communities in the state, dispossessing the people of their properties and running them out of their homes.
According to Bello: “We have spent over N470 million on combating banditry and insecurity.
“The security situation in Niger State is becoming worrisome.
“However, the government is determined to ensure that the insecurity is addressed and brought down to its barest minimum.
“These bandits have become more daring.
“We have used every opportunity to dialogue with them, but those in the Pandogari axis have refused to listen to dialogue instead they have become more daring, armed and dangerous.
“They seem to remain committed to carrying out whatever activity they intend to do by unleashing terror and feat in the people and state.”
The Governor further said the number of Internally Displaced Persons across the state had increased to 1,000 as a result of bandit attacks.
