The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ahmed Idris Wase, has commiserated with the Government and people of Plateau over the death of 14 people as a result of a building collapse.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Umar Puma, Wase recalled that incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, July 15, 2019 at Delimi community in Jos North Local Government Area of the state.
He said that the incident led to the death of the landlord and other occupants, with four others who are said to be critically injured.
The deputy speaker called for adequate measures aimed at preventing a repeat of similar incident in the future.
Wase described the incident as “one-too-many” and that it happened at a time when the state and the country in general was working hard to keep the citizens safe and secured.
According to Wase, a situation where citizens are dying from avoidable causes such as building collapse even in the face of ongoing executive and legislative efforts to regulate and reposition the building and construction industry is not acceptable.
He said that for the people to record deaths from unsafe structures due to avoidable negligence was unacceptable and most unfortunate.
Wase said that government must seek ways of addressing the menace of building collapse in the country.
The deputy speaker prayed God for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives and grant their families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
