A former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Lamorde, is after all in the country and not in the United Arab Emirate as had been speculated.
Lamorde was on Thursday declared wanted by the Senate over his failure to appear before the Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions to answer to allegations of diversion of investigation proceeds.
He was alleged to have converted over N1 trillion to personal use from monies retrieved from accused persons.
The bulk of the money was said to be those retrieved from a former Inspector General of Police, Tafa Balogun, and late Governor of Bayelsa State, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha.
Following his failure to honour the Senate’s invitation, there were speculations that Lamorde had absconded from the country.
However, The Eagle Online can report that Lamorde is at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies in Kuru, near Jos, Plateau State.
He is part of the new intakes to be inducted on Friday at the College meant for senior officers due to be promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police or its equivalent in the military.
Lamorde is an Assistant Commissioner of Police.
Sources said Lamorde arrived at the College on Monday or Tuesday ahead of the induction.
He had maintained his innocence in the case, with his lawyer, Festus Keyamo, having filed a suit in that regard.
