Uduaghan calls for team play at swearing-in of eight new perm secs

The Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, has sworn in eight new Permanent Secretaries with a charge to them to be team players, impartial and neutral in service delivery.
Uduaghan, who enjoined them to abide by the civil service code of conduct and promote diligence, selflessness and honesty in carrying out their duties, described the civil service as a stabilizing factor and a link between the past and present.
The governor urged the newly-appointed permanent secretaries to see their appointment as an opportunity to contribute to the economic development and overall growth of the state.
He said: “The civil service as an institution remains a stabilizing factor and a link between the past and the present.
“I want to say that the civil service derives its strength from being loyal to the government of the day.”
He called on all ministries, departments and agencies to make use of the vast human resources in the state civil service and ensure that there was no vacuum between the various cadres in the civil service.
Uduaghan challenged the leadership of all ministries, departments and agencies to work towards an effective utilization of available man power in such a way that all staff are informed of the mission and vision of the state government.
“I want to encourage every ministry, department and agency to make good use of the vast human resource base of the Delta State Civil Service by involving the junior and middle management cadres in the implementation of government policies and programmes,” he said.
The governor disclosed that all ministries, departments and agencies would be assessed through the Delta State Economic Dashboard.
He added that all ministries, departments and agencies were expected to meet all agreed targets during the next appraisal exercise.
“From now on ministries, departments and agencies will be assessed on agreed targets through the Delta State Economic Dashboard and it is expected that all ministries, departments and agencies should be able to meet set targets,” he said.
Uduaghan congratulated the recently retired permanent secretaries present at the occasion and enjoined them to make their services available to the state when needed.
Responding on behalf of his colleagues, Sir Austin Mowah promised their unalloyed loyalty and commitment to the programmes and policies of the state government.
Mowah assured Uduaghan that they would key into the actualisation of the state government’s vision of Delta State beyond oil.
Those sworn-in were Ngozi Austin Mowah, Joseph Afonwa Omeife, Dr. Lillian Omotekoro Okpako, Valentine Uche Okwuchi, Engineer Donatus Adua Umukoro, Eric O. Osharode, Felicia Nkem Adun and Emmanuel Amu Yugbovwre.
