Mohamed Salah’s brilliant brace against his former club AS Roma inspired Liverpool to a thrilling 5-2 Champions League win at Anfield on Tuesday night.
The Egyptian, playing for the first time against Roma since leaving for Liverpool last summer, opened the scoring in stunning fashion when he netted a powerful effort in the 36th minute.
Salah then made it 2-0 with his delicate chip over Alisson Becker on the stroke of half time before the 25-year-old’s cross was driven into the back of the net by Sadio Mane.
Liverpool had started the semi-final first-leg clash slowly but after exploiting Roma’s tactical set-up, they went 4-0 ahead when Salah set up Roberto Firmino in the 61st minute.
The Brazilian added gloss to the score-line seven minutes later when he headed in his second of the night, but Roma hit back late on with two away goals through Edin Dzeko and a penalty from Diego Perotti, which will hand Roma hope going into the second leg in the Italian capital next week.
