An Osogbo High Court in Osun State on Wednesday sentenced two young men to death by hanging for raping a 14-year-old girl, Bilikisu Adeyemi, to death.
The convicts – Suraju Olarewaju, 20, and Lekan Olatayo, 20 – whose addresses are unknown, were arraigned in 2005 on a two-count charge of conspiracy and murder.
In her judgment, Justice R.A. Shiyanbola, said the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubts and sentenced the duo to death by hanging.
Shiyanbola said the men had contravened Sections 319 (1) and 324 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun State, 2004.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Folashade Adekanmi, had told the court that the convicts committed the offences on June 1, 2005 at Abesu area of Osogbo.
Adekanmi said the convicts blocked the nose of the deceased with a loaf of bread while raping her at about midnight.
She said the accused had also confessed to the crime.
