US President, Donald Trump, has expressed his readiness to meet with Russian President, Vladimir Putin, but no other steps were taken, there is no clarity or contacts on the issue, Kremlin spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said Friday.
In March, Trump held a phone conversation with Putin, during which he congratulated the Russian leader on the victory in the Russian presidential election and invited him to come to the US
“No, there is still no clarity. There are no substantive contacts on this issue, ins spite of the fact that the presidents of Russia and the US agreed to instruct the foreign minister and the state secretary to get in touch.
“In spite of the U.S. president’s readiness and the willingness to meet, there have been no any other steps yet.
“We are waiting,” Peskov told newsmen when asked whether there was clarity on when the meeting would take place.
When asked about any “non-substantive contacts,” the spokesman said that the diplomatic ties had been maintained on a permanent basis, adding that such contacts were not enough to discuss potential details of a meeting between the two leaders.
During the presidential race and after his victory Trump has repeatedly stated that he would like to improve relations between Russia and the U. S.
However, the relations between Moscow and Washington have recently reached what Trump has called their lowest point.
A number of issues, such as the Ukrainian crisis, several rounds of Western sanctions and alleged Russian meddling in the US presidential election cast shadow over the contacts between the two nations.
