Toronto FC sacks Bright Dike

Toronto FC announced that the club has parted way with Nigerian striker, Bright Dike.

Dike, 28, appeared in 11 matches, registering one goal and one assist for Toronto FC in MLS league play.

He was originally acquired in a trade with the Portland Timbers on September 9, 2013.

In Dike’s limited time on the field with Toronto, he had shown glimpses of the physical strength and positional awareness that had spurred call-ups for the Nigerian squad.

Dike was even pegged to join Nigeria for the 2014 World Cup before suffering a second torn Achilles that resulted in him sitting out a large part of the 2014 season.

In 2015, Dike had only appeared in two matches for Toronto FC, registering an assist in 20 minutes of play.

The striker was subsequently sent on loan to the San Antonio Scorpions of the NASL. While at San Antonio, Dike managed to equal his scoring total for Toronto FC, finding the back of the net once in roughly 100 minutes of play.

Bright Dike’s departure seems to come at an inopportune moment for the club as they await the league’s decision on how many games DP strike,r Jozy Altidore, will be suspended for.

With Luke Moore sidelined by injury and Robbie Findley failing to impress thus far in a TFC jersey, Dike could have been a solid hold-up man to pair with Sebastian Giovinco up front.
