Dr. Williams Wodi, Deputy Registrar, Information, UNIPORT, who disclosed this in a statement in Port Harcourt on Saturday, said they passed through stringent criteria set up by the Senate of the university.

The Congress of University Academics, a faction of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, says it has opened its branch at the University of Port Harcourt.
The University of Port Harcourt on Friday clarified the status of Ijeoma Duru, an Assistant Director in the Federal Ministry of Education, when she attended the university’s official presentation of the Sexual Harassment Policy document on October 29.
Anigbate disclosed this while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria shortly after winning gold in Triple Jump at the ongoing West Africa Universities Games in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
Prof. Regina Ogali, Chairman of WAUG 2018 Local Organising Committee, told newsmen at the university’s sports centre, venue of games in Port Harcourt, on Thursday that the university was yet to receive funds from sponsors.
The universities include: University of Port Harcourt, University of Benin, Akwa Ibom State University, University of Africa, University of Uyo, University of Calabar and Niger Delta University.
He said: “UNIPORT will be reopened for academic activities on Monday, May 23 to enable students pursue their academic dreams.
The umbrella body of senior staff in the oil and gas industry also called on the Federal Government, especially the Federal Ministry of Education and the Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, to investigate the circumstance that led to the death of the student and identify as well as bring to justice anybody behind the dastardly act
He said: “On the issue of fatality, for now, last night, there was a case of a body that was recovered but very far away from this area.
“The corpse is currently at the mortuary ready for autopsy
“The policeman reported dead had nothing to do with UNIPORT because the deceased policeman was shot dead by armed robbers in an isolated case
Dr. Williams Wodi, UNIPORT’s Deputy Registrar (Information), made this known in a text message sent to the News Agency of Nigeria.
According to the statement, the decision to close the school was reached during an emergency Senate meeting convened to address the students’ protest over the “no tuition fee-no-examination policy”
It said: “We are worried that if there unarmed protesting students will be killed in cold blood then there is no guarantee that protesting workers or citizens will not be killed
The protest, which initially started on a peaceful note, later turned violent with the students, in their hundreds, destroying school property.
They demanded the withdrawal of the policy, which, they argued, was unfair to poor students
Dr. Williams Wodi, the university’s spokesman, confirmed to the News Agency of Nigeria in Port Harcourt on Thursday that members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities of the university were on strike
Kuye said that the six graduates were not only the pioneers in the institution but also in the country
Uniport got 63 gold medals, 41 silver medals and 16 bronze medals in a comfortable first position
Similarly, Ngozichukwuka Ogodo of the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State has also won the gold in the 10,000m female category
The second gold for the university came from the 200m freestyle swimming for women, while the third gold was won in the 100m butterfly swimming for men
Wodi said that the university’s reopening was in compliance with the directive of the Committee of Pro-Chancellors, which was endorsed by the university’s Senate during its emergency meeting on Tuesday
