African Triple Jump champion, Grace Anigbate, says she is targeting a triple jump gold in Tokyo 2020 Olympics in Japan.
Anigbate disclosed this while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria shortly after winning gold in Triple Jump at the ongoing West Africa Universities Games in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
Anigbate, a 300-level Human Kinetic student of UNIPORT, said she needed to compete with the best athletes in the world having dominated Nigeria and Africa.
She said: “WAUG games have been a good experience for me so far, especially after winning the gold in the triple jump.
“In all honesty, there was really no competitor; nobody to push me to my limit or make me sweat.
“I tried not to intimidate my competitors, while trying at the same time to entertain fans and the spectators.”
Anigbate said she had already started preparation for the All African Games in Morocco and the 17th IAAF World Championship in Qatar both in 2019.
The gold medalist said she was training hard to win gold in triple and high jump in both championships in 2019.
She said: “But my main focus is participating in 2020 Tokyo Olympics in Japan. I am training hard to represent and win gold for Nigeria at the Olympics.”
NAN reports that Anigbate became African champion after winning gold at the 2018 African Senior Athletics Championship in Asaba, Delta in August 2018.
