The Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, revealed this in a statement
The call followed a resolution by the lawmakers at the end of a closed-door session held immediately after the removal of the mace, the symbol of authority for the legislature.
The senator was arrested in the Senate Wing of the National Assembly at 1:57pm
The Deputy Senate President, Dr. Ike Ekweremadu, who presided over a joint sitting of the members of the House of Representatives and the Senate, vowed to stand by democracy and defend it
Ekweremadu in his remarks on the motion sponsored by Senator Suleiman Adokwe on recent killings in Nasarawa South Senatorial District, said there must be solution to the recent killings across the country “even if the National Assembly is going to be shut down in order for us to interface with Executive on this matter”.
The resolutions followed a Point-of-Order raised at plenary by Senator Suleiman Adokwe, who represents Nasarawa South Senatorial District.
Na’allah, representing the President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki said this at a legislative summit organised by Hallow Mace Communications Ltd. on Tuesday in Abuja.
The approval followed a motion by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu and 49 others.
“I will intensify my prayers and do the work of mercy for peace and unity of Nigeria where genuine friendship and brotherhood, devoid of parochialism reigns.
The President of the Senate, according to a statement by his Special Assistant on Print Media, Chuks Okocha, said: “You have come at a very challenging time because as you know there are brother African countries that have different views about the ICC at this particular time and Nigeria will continue to play the role to stand firm to be able to be a kind of arbiter between different countries.
This followed a Point-of-Order raised by Senator Chukwuka Utazi at plenary on Thursday.
He said one of the conditions given by the Senate for his recall, the dissolution of the pro-President Muhammadu Buhari group in the Senate, was beyond him.
He listed the defaulting committees as: Defence, Army, Air Force, Navy, Industry, Federal Capital Territory, States and Local Government, Culture and Tourism, Petroleum Downstream, Petroleum Upstream and Niger Delta.
The suspension followed the outcome of the Senate committee that was set up to probe Omo-Agege.
The judge said that the suit lacked merit as Section 88 and 89 of the Nigeria’s Constitution empowers the lawmakers to carry out investigations on issues of public interest.
The request was contained in separate letters read by the President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki at plenary.
Saraki made the call on Saturday in Offa when he visited the Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi in his palace over Thursday’s armed robbery attack on five banks.
Saraki made this known at a retreat on “Strengthening Executive -Legislature Relations” organised by the Senate Press Corps held in Jos, Plateau on Saturday.
He said that in the committee’s preliminary investigation into economic infractions, it found out that most companies were found to have abused Federal Government’s fiscal policies.
