The Senate has shifted its proposed annual vacation by one week, to create time for the screening and confirmation of the 43 ministerial nominees sent to it by President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday.

The decision followed a motion on Tuesday entitled “Existing Petroleum Subsidy: Ensuring Self -Sufficiency in Domestic Refining of Petroleum Products’’, by Senator Rose Oko.
The Senate has urged the Ministry of Finance to release all monies due to the North-East Development Commission and other relevant agencies to enable them address the humanitarian crises in the sub region.

The nominees are: Uba Maska, Executive Commissioner (North West) who was reappointed, Aliyu Abubakar, Non-Executive Commissioner (North East), Prof Millionaire Abowei, Non-Exexutive Commissioner (South South) and Abdulazeez Mohammed, Non-Executive Commissioner (North Central).
Chairman of the panel, Senator Sam Egwu, made the request at Wednesday’s plenary, relying on Order 43 of the Senate.

The President of the Senate, Dr Ahmad Lawan, has approved the appointments of Karage Mamman and Ola Awoniyi as his Deputy Chief of Staff and Special Adviser on Media, respectively.
