The President said this in his New Year message to Nigerians

The NNSG Executive Secretary, Tony Uranta, told newsmen in Lagos that restructuring of the country had become a central issue and could not be overlooked.

While it must be emphasized that it was not every stakeholder in Yorubaland that attended the summit let alone agreed with the entire proposition, the question whether this makes the submission any less valid is a moot point. In the North, some of the region’s leaders including governors are also talking and demanding devolution of powers and other variants of restructuring. Also, the National Assembly, which had curiously dumped devolution of power as an item on its constitution review plan, is now having a rethink. 

“The imbalance between the roles of the federal and state governments lies at the root of our difficulties. We need to re-balance the duties of the federal and state governments. The quest to correct the imbalance is the essence of federalism that I have advocated for so many years,” he said in an address he sent to the 2017 Annual Dinner of the King’s College Old Boys’ Association in Lagos

The Senate had during the debate on the amendment of the Constitution voted against the restructuring of the country

Indeed, some attributed Soyinka’s swift reaction to the age-long rift between him and the former President, but the truth is that many, all the same, never aligned with the stance by Obasanjo that Nigerians should rather restructure their minds and mentality instead of settling for restructuring of their country.

According to Enang, restructuring is a constitutional matter and the legislature deals with review of the Constitution and should therefore, handle any issue that calls for change of law.

Headed by the Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, other members include Governors Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun State), Godwin Obaseki (Edo State) and Rauf Aregbesola (Osun State) 

He told newsmen after the meeting that the inputs collated from across the region would be used as a working document by the technical committee on restructuring set up by the two.

El-Rufai, who is the Chairman of the APC Committee on True Federalism, spoke with State House Correspondents on the issue

In his speech at the occasion, Otunba Daniel said the summit marks a watershed in the history of Nigeria’s political evolution as people from all walks of life were ably represented and spoke with one voice.

According to him, restructuring is the most topical issue in the country now, noting that it is beginning to take its consolidated position.

Amuda-Kannike told the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Thursday that the committee would create a platform for Nigerians to express their views on the issue.

Abubakar was reported to have kicked against the restructuring the country at the opening ceremony of the national colloquium organised by the Nigeria Labour Congress

The APC stated its position in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, in response to an earlier statement by the PDP that it was in support of restructuring
