The Nigerian National Summit Group has said that who becomes Nigeria’s next president will revolve around the debate on restructuring of the country.
The NNSG Executive Secretary, Tony Uranta, told newsmen in Lagos that restructuring of the country had become a central issue and could not be overlooked.
Uranta said: “Restructuring is going to be a factor to bring about the next president of Nigeria.
“Unfortunately, I hear a lot of people being mischievous about what restructuring really means.
“I have also found out that we have let the debate about restructuring fall into the politics of Nigeria.
“Restructuring means changing the economic face of Nigeria so that every Nigerian can have a better life.
“All we are saying is let everybody, every federating unit truly have control of its resources, pay something to the centre and develop itself along the line and manner it so decides.”
Uranta told journalists that he was one of those who conceived the restructuring idea.
He said: “Up till the time of PRONACO, there was an insistence that we must have a Sovereign National Conference.
“We started pushing through the NNSG that we needed a national conference.
“It became clear when former President, Goodluck Jonathan, submitted the report of the last National Conference to the National Assembly and handed it over to President Muhammadu Buhari that the nation had spoken and wanted it to be addressed by both the legislative and executive arms of government.”
Uranta claimed that that the fundamental decision of the conference which he said, was restructuring, had yet to be implemented.
