The former Watford and Fulham boss has signed a three-year contract with the Blades and succeeds Chris Wilder, who left in March after guiding his boyhood club from Sky Bet League One to the Premier League in just over four and a half years in charge.

The Toffees are currently eighth in the table, four points behind fifth-placed Liverpool, while Sheffield United remain rooted to the bottom of the division, having picked up just 17 points during a disastrous campaign.

The Blades have remained at the foot of the Premier League table for the majority of the campaign, and they will hope to limit the damage with a second victory from their last three games in the top flight.

Spurs have won four of their last five league matches on home soil, while the Blades have claimed just four points from a possible 48 available on the road this campaign, the fewest in the division.

The Blades are 18 points adrift and it will be mathematically impossible for them to escape the drop should they lose at Molineux and Newcastle United beat West Ham United.
