The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the association had on Aug. 9, issued a 21-day ultimatum to the Kogi Government to meet its demands or be ready for an indefinite strike action, after suspending its two-day industrial action directed by the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD).

In a notice issued on Saturday, the association which is currently on a nationwide indefinite strike said the protest will commence on Wednesday, 9th August at 10:00am.
This is contained in a letter written by the Director of Hospital Services, Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH), Dr Andrew Noah, on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, Mr Olufunso Adebiyi, dated August 1 to the Accountant General of the Federation.
It added that the strike would continue until reasonable progress was made by the government to address its demands as contained in the ultimatum issued to the federal government on July 5.

The resident doctors reached the resolution on Wednesday at a virtual Extraordinary National Executive Council Meeting (E-NEC) to appraise the level of implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the government on May 19, 2023, following a five-day warning strike embarked upon by the Association on May 17, 2023.
Ngige said the government has given the doctors everything they want and their sense of entitlement is “too much.”
The NARD President, Dr. Dare Ishaya, gave the assurance on Thursday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria.
The association said it shifted its decision to give room for intervention by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
Members of the association staged a protest in Benin on Tuesday over the murder of their 36-year-old colleague.
The suit seeks to challenge NARD for embarking on strike from Aug. 2 to Sept. 17, 2021 was slated for hearing in Wednesday’s proceeding.
The World Health Organization (WHO) defines workplace violence as, “Incidents where staff are abused, threatened, or assaulted in circumstances related to their work, including commuting to and from work, involving an explicit or implicit challenge to their safety, well-being, or health.” WHO considers both physical and psychological harm, including attacks, verbal abuse, bullying, and both sexual and racial harassment, to be workplace violence.
It has however given the Federal Government a six-week window to fulfil its demands after which it will call a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting to review the progress made.

Their threat is contained in a letter addressed to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara and other stakeholders.
In a statement jointly signed by its President, Prof. Innocent Ujah, and Secretary-General, Dr Philips Ekpe, the NMA said the Federal Government should resolve all pending issues with NARD within 21 days in the interest of all concerned.
