The meeting of the technical sub-committee of the West Africa Police Chiefs Committee is to foster cooperation among police officers specialized in the training and operations, with a view to strengthening regional capacities to effectively combat organized crime

Ambassador MacRae, in his remarks, said the signing “concretizes the pledge made during the donors conference and a demonstration of the EU commitment to supporting the long-term objective of assisting Mali fully restore state authority, law and order, in addition to providing necessary support to the stabilization process in the country at the political and military levels as well as contributing to its early recovery

The Force Commander said further that the transition of AFISMA mandate from ECOWAS to AU underscores the solidarity and support of the international community to the overall goal of routing out the Jihadists from Mali and indeed the entire sub-region

The Director General of NEMA, Muhammad Sani-Sidi, said that the relief intervention was on the directive of President Goodluck Jonathan, who urged urgent delivery of the emergency materials to the affected population in addition to the deployment of a contingent of the Nigeria military to ensure return to normalcy in Mali

The meeting, the second in 11 days, is in response to the January 19, 2013 extra-ordinary summit of regional Heads of State and Government towards an accelerated deployment of AFISMA, within the context of the UN Security Council Resolution 2085 of December 2012
