No fewer than 92 pensioners in Oyo State on Monday received cheques worth N208 million as gratuities from the Oyo State government.

The governor, who spoke during activities organised to mark the 2021 Workers Day in Birnin Kebbi, however, said the administration would not be able to pay the 2020 leave grant of workers and outstanding gratuities.
The Kebbi Government says it has expended N10.8 billion on payments of outstanding gratuities to 7,003 retirees across the 21 local government areas in the last three years.
The Oyo State Government on Monday released N201,585,089.20 for another set of 90 retirees to offset their outstanding gratuities.
Dr Mike Ike-Ene, the Secretary-General of the union made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Abuja.
Ganduje, who made the promise at the 2018 May Day celebration in Kano on Tuesday, said despite the financial challenges, his administration has been responsive to the welfare of workers.
