Taking a position on the issue after receiving presentations from the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, and the Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, the National Economic Council during its fourth 2021 meeting held on Thursday unanimously described the claim as reported in the media as “outrightly false.”

Why are we in trouble? Obaseki adduced a reason that it is because the country is enmeshed deeply in a financial quagmire. According to him, Nigeria’s oil marketers should not celebrate the increase in the price of crude oil, especially in the international market, for the expected benefits could be illusional. He noted that major oil companies in Nigeria such as Shell and Chevron are no longer investing in oil exploration.

The Governor made a final financial commitment for the adoption of the UK-based athlete after a meeting with the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, in Benin last Friday.

Whereas, it took the report of the Federal Government’s ambitious construction of N34 billion worth of 377 rural roads across 266 communities around agro-corridors countrywide, including some community roads in Edo South and Edo North Senatorial Districts, to jolt Obaseki from his slumber, his further or subsequent actions at trying to draw public attention to a modicum of governance in the state should have been more contemplative and ennobling. It was, therefore, a strategic misstep that Obaseki made with his February 22 outing.
