The sport’s world governing body the IAAF has announced that the 49-year-old Namibian, who won four Olympic silver medals and a world 200metres title in the 1990s, is being investigated by the athletics integrity unit over payments he received from Papa Massata Diack, the son of the ex-IAAF president Lamine Diack.
“I have decided to step aside from the task force so that the integrity of its work is not questioned due to the allegations made against me in Le Monde,” the 49-year-old Namibian was quoted as saying in an IAAF statement
