Staggered elections not the best for Nigeria – Jega

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, has again said that staggered elections are not the best for Nigeria,.
Jega, who spoke on Wednesday, said the series of staggered elections in the country resulted from court judgments, which affected tenures of some governors and not as a result of the choice of the commission.
Jega made his position known in Abuja at a one-day Workshop for Accredited Observer Groups, organised by the Election Monitoring and Observation Unit of INEC.
He said that the best option remains having elections the same day as it is done globally.
Jega said: “Under normal circumstances, elections should not be staggered.
“The normal way it is done globally is to have elections the same day.
“There is staggering of elections in Nigeria because of necessity resulting from court judgments.
“We should work towards ensuring that our elections are conducted in a free, fair and credible manner.”
