Fatai Oshungboye, the Ibadan Branch Manager of Shoprite, said on Thursday that its new office complex in the Oyo State capital was the largest in West Africa.
Oshungboye spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria in Ibadan shortly after the inauguration of the complex on Ring Road.
The new branch, he said, has a staff strength of 400.
He said that apart from providing employment opportunities, Nigerians now have the opportunity to buy goods and services at cheaper prices.
Oshungboye said: “We have employed 250 staff and 150 persons as support staff without taking into consideration ethnic and religious sentiments.
“At Shoprite, we are not bothered if you are Igbo, Yoruba or Hausa, but as long as you are qualified and you are a Nigerian, we believe you can work with us.”
Oshungboye also said Shoprite would open over 200 outlets across the country in the next five years.
He said: “There are plans to open five more outlets before the end of the year and we are particularly considering Ota, Apapa, Festac and some parts of the South-South Zone of Nigeria.
“By bringing Shoprite outlets nearer to the people, we hope that they will visit less of open markets where the quality of goods and services are not guaranteed.”
NAN reports that the new complex in Ibadan makes it the 10th in the country.
