Senator Shehu Sani (Kaduna Central) has called on Cadets at the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State to change the current perception of the society about the Nigeria Police.
Sani made the call on Sunday while addressing Kaduna State Cadets currently undergoing training in the Academy.
Sani explained: “As Cadets you have the duty to change the perception of the society about the Nigeria Police as time has passed when the police was for those who could not make it academically.”
Sani, who, is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign and Local Debts, also urged the Cadets to avoid corrupt practices and any act capable of denting the image of the Force.
He noted: “You cannot expect the society to respect you when you subscribe to corruption. You are academics, scholars and at the same time policemen.
“Your thinking and strategy should be far advanced. So, you must move from the mentality of Native Authority Police.”
“I will make sure I draw the attention of the Government to take the issue of Police training seriously because the Academy is for all of us.”
The lawmaker assured the Cadets that the National Assembly would support the Academy with the necessary finance to enable it to carry out its operations effectively.
He said as the second prestigious Police Academy in Africa, it should have the necessary equipment to enable it to meet the aspirations of the nation.
Responding on behalf of the cadets, Faris Dangaladima commended the lawmaker for taking time to visit them in the Academy.
Dangaladima called on him to prevail on the police authorities to pay their outstanding allowances within the shortest time possible.
He also called on the Senator to assist the Cadets with laptops to facilitate their academic activities especially with regard to e-learning.
Sani was in the Academy to see the cadets from Kaduna State.
