The Senate on Tuesday stated that defeat for Nigeria is not an option in the African Nations Cup qualifier between the Super Eagles and the Bafana Bafana of South Africa.
The match is scheduled for 6pm on Wednesday at the Ibom International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The President of Senate, Senator David Mark, stated the position of the Senate on Tuesday while commending the senior national team for the brilliant performance against Congo in Point Noire, which ended 2-0 in favour of the Super Eagles.
Mark said: “May I on behalf of all of us congratulate the Super Eagles for their victory in Congo.
“Their next match is tomorrow.
“We had almost given up, but somehow I think they managed to show the light at the end of the tunnel.
“Very dim light at the end of the tunnel.
“Be that as it may, may I humbly request Ademola, who is a traditional person here, who looks after the Christian group, and Gumba, who looks after the Islamic prayer group, to intensify their prayers so that they can beat Bafana Bafana tomorrow in Uyo.
“They certainly have to beat them.
“We don’t have a choice and our prayers will be them.
“We give them all our support.
“And Gumba, I want you to transmit this message to them, loud and clear to them, that defeat is not an option at all in tomorrow’s match.
“They must bring us victory.”
