Senate presidency: APC using EFCC to bully dissenting voices — Senators-elect

Senators-elect on the platform of All Progressives Congress have accused the leadership of the party of attempting to use the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to bully dissenting voices to support the party’s preferred candidate for Senate president’s seat.
This is even as no fewer than 35 APC senators-elect have declared their support for Senator Mohammed Ndume as Senate president.
The national leadership of ruling party had at a meeting in the Presidential Villa, Abuja announced Senator Ahmad Lawan as the party’s preferred candidate for the Senate presidency.
However, the senators-elect, who pleaded anonymity, expressed dissatisfaction with the imposition of Lawan on them, adding that all “Juicy Committees” have even been shared before the commencement of ninth Senate.
The senators-elect also expressed dissatisfaction with the claims by the Senate Leader that governors elected on the platform of the party have already donated their senators to him in order to emerge as the Senate president.
The senators-elect said: “We are not happy over claims by Lawan that APC governors have donated their Senators-elect to him in order to realise his Senate Presidency.
“Even they have gone ahead to share the Juicy Committees to Senators-elect that are favourable to the imposition.
“The attempts to intimidate and harass some of us using the Economic and Financial Crime Commission is not palatable.”
The senators-elect added that they have uncovered plans by the party to plant spies in the gallery of the chamber to monitor the elections.
Most of the lawmakers rooting for Ndume’s emergence are first time senators.
