Senate investigates SURE-P, SIP as PDP, APC senators clash over intervention projects

This was even as the Senate embarked on the investigation of SIP and Subsidy Reinvestment Empowerment Programme.

Senators of the All Progressives Congress on Wednesday clashed with their counterparts in the Peoples Democratic Party over Federal Government Special Intervention Programmes.
This was even as the Senate embarked on the investigation of SIP and Subsidy Reinvestment Empowerment Programme.
Trouble started when Minority Leader, Senator Biodun Olujinmi, who came under point of order, alleged that the SIP was being used for political purpose.
Olujimi said the fund was specifically being used for the 2019 general elections.
Angered by Olujinmi’s submission, the Senate Leader, Ahmad Lawan, in an attempt to counter the Minority Leader, was resisted by Senator Dino Melaye.
There was disorderliness on the Senate floor before before Lawan was allowed to speak.
The Senate however agreed to include the management of the SURE-P into the probe of the SIP.
