The Enogie of Evbuobanosa, Prof. Godwin Akenzua, has prayed for the success of Governor Adams Oshiomhole in the July 14, 2012 election, to enable him complete all the projects the government is currently working on.
The royal father, who commended the governor for his commitment to the total development of every aspect of the socio-economic life of the state, appealed to the government for support towards the growth of motorbike racing in the state.
The traditional ruler, speaking during the Easter motorbike race organised by Motor Cross Naija at Evbuobanosa village, appealed to corporate and non-government organisations to assist government to support the motor bike sport initiative to enable it attain an international status.
“You have demonstrated your commitment to the total development of the state and determination to bring governance to the grassroots in Edo State. It is our prayer that you return to Osadebey Avenue so that Edo State people will continue to benefit from your exemplary leadership and our dream of an asphalt track realised,” he noted.
According to him, the benefits of the project are quite enormous, most importantly because of its capacity to enhance tourism potential in the state and the potential employment for the youths, thereby stemming urban drift.
“Internationally, sports is known not only to help keep body healthy but a medium for promoting unity in the country. We are very grateful for the waiver granted by the governor for the vast land made available to Motor Cross Naija for the event,” he added.
Oshiomhole disclosed that the government will construct a four-kilometre asphalt track, which will be reflected in next year’s budget.
“I will direct the Commissioner for Works to carry out studies and costing. By the special grace of God it will be reflected in next year’s budget and by January when it is dry, construction work will start. I will like to be present when you hold your first international event,” he added.
Chairman of the occasion, the Esogban of Benin, Chief David Edebiri, who thanked everyone that made it possible to have this new sport in Edo State, said it was a wise decision to encourage this enterprise.
“In the near future, this will not only bring fame to the community, the state and the country, it will bring development to the people of Evbuobanosa,” he noted.
