Rovers FC of Calabar on Wednesday lost their first match in the 2019 Nigeria National League to Dynamiteforce FC of Iyamho.
The match which was played at the U. J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar saw the Rovers dominate proceedings in the first 45 minutes but could not covert their chances.
Rovers who were wasteful in the first half of the match had a glaring opportunity in the 14 minutes to take the lead but Promise Abuo failed to convert giving room to a barren first 45 minutes.
On the resumption of proceeding in the second half, Dynamiteforce picked up their game and created scoring chances.
Their efforts paid off in the 70 minutes when Wellington Agbolor capitalised on a defensive error to slide the ball to the back of the net from close range.
Rovers however fought back but all their efforts to come back into the game met a resilient Dynamiteforce defence.
Speaking to journalists after the match, Dynamiteforce Coach, Sanni Sadauna, said he gave God the glory for the victory but said he still had a lot of lapses in the team that he needed to correct.
He said: “This is not the end product, we still have a long way to go to gain promotion but I assure you that we are going to be there.
“Calabar has been a home of good football, anywhere you come from, if you play well, they will support you and the fans are very peaceful.”
Also, the scorer of the only goal of the match, Agbolor said the first half was difficult for his team because they were not used to the pitch but after the first 45 minutes they understood the pitch better.
He added that he prayed to God before the commencement of the league season to bless him with more goals as he scored just one goal in the previous season which he said was not encouraging.
Efforts to get handlers of Rovers FC of Calabar were unsuccessful.
