Registrar rescued from kidnappers

The Rivers State Police Command said it has successfully rescued the Registrar of Ken Saro Wiwa Polytechnic, Bori, Rivers State, Lilian Davies, from kidnappers.

The Registrar, who was kidnapped on November 17, 2015, was freed by the police on Friday at about 3:30pm.

Davies was said to have been set free by a special tactical outfit set up by the Rivers State Commissioner of Police to tackle the menace of kidnappings in the state.

Davies was while on transit along Bori-Yaghe Road.

She was rescued from the bush around Kaani in Khana Local Government Area of the state.

A statement by the Rivers State Police Command said the rescue team, during the operation, had a fierce gun duel with the kidnappers, resulting in the death of four of the kidnappers.

One AK47 rifle, one locally made pistol, one magazine, 25 rounds of 7.62 live ammunition and five cartridges were recovered at the scene after the operation.

The statement, signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad K. Muhammad, added: “Criminal elements in the are advised to relocate from Rivers State as the police are determined more than before to take the onslaughts to their hideouts, please.”
