Publisher’s daughter confirmed killed in Army, Shiite face-off

Batula Hamid Danlami, an undergraduate of Pharmacy of the University of Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran and daughter of Alhaji Hamid Danlami, the Managing Director of I.M Publication, publishers of Almizan newspaper, Gwagwarmaya magazine and Pointer newspaper, has been identified as being among hundreds of followers of Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky that were allegedly killed in Zaria, Kaduna State by Nigerian Military.
Earlier, Sheik Muhammad Turi, Zakzaky’s second-in-command, and the group’s spokesman, Ibrahim Usman, were identified among this killed by soldiers.
According to the Nigerian Islamic Movement, Batula was reportedly shot by soldiers at Sheikh Zakzaky’s residence in Gyellesu area of Zaria on Sunday morning.
A senior member of the Shiite Sect confirmed the killing to the newsmen on Thursday.
He said Batula, Turi and Usman were shot by soldiers when they stormed Zakzaky’s house to arrest him.
However, the Islamic cleric was said to have escaped before the arrival of the soldiers.
He said several members of the Shiite sustained various degrees of injuries from gunshots from the sporadic shooting of the soldiers.
He said the soldiers are still laying siege at Zakzaky’s residence and have prevented anyone from either going in or coming out of the building.
Turi was the son of a former Managing Director of the New Nigerian Newspaper in Kaduna State and was seen as possible successor to Zakzaky.
