The Police Service Commission has approved the appointment of Jonathan Towuru as the Deputy Inspector-General of Police to represent the South South geopolitical zone on the Police Management Team.
Ikechukwu Ani, PSC’s Head of Press and Public Relations, confirmed the appointment in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.
Ani said that prior to his appointment, Towuru had served as the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 6, Calabar.
He said that Towuru, born on December 6, 1965, in Ouwodo Kpokpo Olomu Town, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, would replace Daniel Pedro, who recently retired from his position as DIG in charge of ICT.
Ani said Towuru had previously held various roles, including Assistant Commissioner of Police at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Enugu, Deputy Force Secretary at Force Headquarters in Abuja, and Deputy Commandant at the Police College in Maiduguri, Borno State.
He said the PSC Chairman, Hashimu Argungu, presided over the session in which the appointment was approved.

Argungu encouraged the new DIG to leverage his extensive experience in policing to make meaningful contributions to the Police Management Team and advance the ideals of the Nigeria Police Force.
He also reiterated the commission’s commitment to supporting the police in their efforts to combat crime and criminality across the nation.
