Students of the Bishop Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, went on rampage this evening following the death of one of their colleagues who died on campus owing the refusal of the authorities of the institution to grant the deceased permit to visit a private clinic to attend to his worsening health condition.
The deceased, a 300 level Computer Science student, simply identified as Melvin, died at the University’s sick bay, thus causing his mates to go on wild demonstration.
They set the sick bay where he died on fire.
So also were some other offices inside the university campus set ablaze.
It was also learnt that the authorities of the institution called in the police to disperse the rampaging students.
The police used tear gas.
But this has not dissuaded the students who are angry that the authorities refused Melvin treatment outside the campus despite the fact that the student was going to pay for it.
As at the time of filling this report, effort to reach the authorities of the school or the police in Oyo State has not been successful.
The Bishop Ajayi Crowther University is owned by the Anglican Church.
