Professor Ayodeji Adeyemi will on Tuesday 12 September 2023 deliver the 112th inaugural lecture of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State.
The lecture titled ‘Reversing the tragedy of Universal Basic Education implementation in Nigeria,’ will come up at the OGD Lecture Theatre, OOU Main Campus at 2pm
According to the programme of the event, the lecture will be under the chairmanship of Professor Ayodeji Agboola, the Vice Chancellor, OOU.
Adeyemi, a professor of Educational Management is of the Department of Educational Management and Business Studies, OOU.
Professor Olumuyiwa B. Adeyemi was born on 23rd February, 1971 into the Royal Family of Late Pa Howells Olutayo Adeyemi of Odogbolu Kingdom, Odogbolu Local Government Area of Ogun State. Prof. Olumuyiwa Babatunde Adeyemi is a graduate of Ogun State University, Ago Iwoye where he bagged Bachelor of Arts (Education) in 1995 with Second Class Honours (Upper Division). He proceeded for his Postgraduate Programmes at Ogun State University where he was awarded Masters Degree (M.Ed.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Educational Management in 1999 and 2007 respectively.
Prof. Adeyemi, fondly called Aristotle, began his career as a teacher at Emmanuel College, Ugbokolo, Benue State and a Part-Time Lecturer in Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo in 1995. He relocated to Lagos when he was employed as a Project Officer at the Child Welfare League of Nigeria (CWLN), Lagos in 1996 which he Co-formed the Campus chapter in 1992. The CWLN was well reputed for the defence of the rights of children and collaboration with other human rights organizations such as CDHR, PRAWA, CDD among others for the emancipation of the Nigerian Society especially during the June 12 democratic struggles. Professor Adeyemi, due to his flair for academics/imparting knowledge, joined the services of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye as a Graduate Assistant in 1997 and he rose through the ranks and became a Professor of Educational Management in 2019.
Aside teaching various courses in his area of specialisation, Professor Adeyemi has to his credit over 57 publications in peer-reviewed Journals locally and internationally, three (3) textbooks on Educational Management which prominently focused on Universal Basic Education Programme and has attended several professional Conferences, Workshops, and Seminars within and outside the country where he presented well-researched papers. He has successfully supervised many undergraduate students projects, over 60 Master dissertations and 25 Ph.D theses (supervised and co-supervised).
Professor Adeyemi, who is currently Head of Department, Educational Management and Business Studies (EMBS), has served the University in various capacities among which are Member of Departmental Certificate Screening Committee in 2000; Faculty Representative, University Publication Committee (2002 -2003); Member, Faculty of Education, University Master Plan (2000-2005); Course Adviser, Year 5 Sandwich Programme (2001-2006); Member, CESAP Taskforce Committee on School Fees (2003-2006); Course Adviser, 400 Level Full Time (2004-2006); Member, OOU Staff Sports Association (1997 to date); Faculty Representative, Faculty of Arts Board (2002 & 2010); Secretary, Faculty Teaching Practice Committee (2002-2010); Departmental Examination Officer (2007-2010); Coordinator, Departmental Post Graduate Programmes (2007-2010); Staff Adviser, Nigerian Universities Education Students NUESA (2009-2011); Ag. Sub-Dean, Faculty of Education Postgraduate Programmes (2011-2012); Departmental Coordinator, General Nigerian Studies GNS (2011-2012); Faculty Coordinator, SIWES (2011-2012); Faculty Coordinator, PGDE Programme (2011-2012); Sub-Dean, Faculty Postgraduate Programmes (2013-2015); Member, Faculty Programme Review Committee (2015 to date); Secretary, Departmental Appraisal Committee (2017 till date); Departmental Coordinator, Postgraduate Programmes (2018 – 2021); Sub-Dean, Postgraduate Programmes, Faculty of Education (2018 – 2021).
Professor is a visiting Senior Research Fellow at the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), Nigeria while on Sabbatical in 2012. The institute is reputed for its collaboration with the World Bank, UNESCO, UNICEF, the International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP), Paris, etc. on Universal Basic Education Scheme where he contributed in training and research across the States of Nigerian Federation. He is the Convener and Co-Coordinator, Leadership Advocacy Concept (LAC), Africa. A body reputed for its advocacy for socio-political advancement for good governance in Nigeria and the continent of Africa. Due to his passion for the less privileged, Professor Adeyemi established a Professorial Endowment for the advancement of Basic Education of children of the less privileged in Nigeria.
It is also worthy to note that Professor Adeyemi is a registered member British International Sociological Association (BISA), Britain (2004), National Association for Educational Administrators and Planners (NAEAP), Nigeria (1998 to date), Counselling Association of Nigerian (CASSON) (2000 to date) and Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (2013 to date). The Inaugural lecturer has several awards to his credit.
Prefessor Olumuyiwa Adeyemi (Aristotle) is an Activist and freedom fighter. He was Honourable Member, Ogun State University Student Union Government in 1990-1994/95 Academic Session. Professor Adeyemi was in the fore-front in the struggle for the realisation of BA(Ed.)/BSc(Ed.) for students of the Faculty of Education at the then Ogun State University in 1994/1995 for which Chief Gani Fawehinmi Chambers and Comrade Mamood provided legal aids. He is the current Secretary, Board of Trustee, Olabisi Onabanjo University Alumni Association.
Professor Adeyemi as a young and talented footballer was called to camp and screening of the youths football competition at the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos State. As a muti-talented creative poet, song writer and a Community leader, professor Adeyemi has many awards to his credit.
Professor Olumuyiwa Adeyemi is happily married to Tinuola Deborah Adeyemi and blessed with children.
