A former FC of Barcelona of Spain winger, Emmanuel Amuneke, has described the present Barcelona team as better than the one he played for when he was with the Catalans.
The former Super Eagles winger made the declaration on Thursday in Ilorin in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria.
Amuneke said: “It was a privilege to play for Barcelona because the club reposed so much confidence in me.
“We have seen Barcelona over the past years and they have been wonderful.
“They have also achieved a lot of success.
“During our time, we had lots of great players too but the generation now has surpassed our achievements.
“We are happy with them.
“Some of them are aging like Puyol, Xavi and Iniesta.”
Amuneke, who was a member of the victorious Super Eagles squad that won the 1994 edition of the AFCON in Tunisia, noted that Barcelona’s philosophy still remained the same.
The 1994 African Footballer of the Year added that the Barcelona philosophy is worthy of emulation.
NAN reports that the former African Footballer of the Year joined the Spanish giants for a fee of $3.6 million in 1996.
But he had his career at top flight cut short after he suffered a serious knee injury.
The injury denied him a regular place in the Catalans team and also deprived him the opportunity of participating in a second consecutive World Cup with the Super Eagles.
Amuneke played 27 times for Nigeria, scoring nine goals.
