Policeman shoots, kills girlfriend’s ex-lover at birthday party

A policeman attached to the Kakuri Police Division, Kaduna, Kaduna State, Alex Okpe, on Sunday allegedly shot dead a 30-year-old Economics graduate of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State, Moses Aminu.
Okpe allegedly shot and killed Aminu at the birthday party of his girlfriend, simply identified as Eunice.
Eunice was Aminu’s ex-girlfriend.
It was learnt that Aminu, who attended Eunice’s birthday at Time Out Lodge, Keffi Road, by Dambo International School, was shot by Okpe, who was also at the party, after a disagreement between the two men.
Aminu, said to be into the production of shawarma, was said to be in high spirit on September 29, the day of the incident.
He was said to have gone to church that Sunday where he serves as an usher and also as the vice president of the Catholic Youth Organization, Holy Family Parish, Barnawa chapter, Kaduna, Kaduna State.
After Mass, he was said to have attended the youth meeting and even moved the motion for the adjournment of the meeting.
Moses was said to be preparing for for his traditional wedding in December.
But he decided to attend the birthday party of Eunice based on the invitation of the celebrant.
Information available to The Eagle Online has it that based on a disagreement at the venue of the party, Okpe pulled out his pistol and shot Aminu.
A source at the party said further: “At the birthday party, a disagreement ensued and a man recognized as a police officer from Kakuri Police Division, who also attended the birthday party in mufti, like every other person, said to be the boyfriend of the girl, brought out a pistol and fired at Moses Aminu, killing him.
“The policeman was said not to be on duty on that day.
“Why then did he attend the party with a pistol?
“Did he go there with the intention to kill?
“Today, Moses Aminu lies in the mortuary and will be buried this Saturday.
“But what about the killer officer?
“Should we allow him go scot free?
“Moses Aminu is one out of several others who have lost their lives to police recklessness and muscle flexing.
“We own these people (policemen) and we must fight to get justice for the innocent killed by trigger happy police officers.
“Today, his family is devastated by the untimely death of its breadwinner.
“His father has difficulties seeing properly.
“Moses Aminu has been supporting the family with proceeds from his shawarma business.
“I wonder if his mother will able to survive this.
“If we allow this continue, I wonder who the next victim will be.”
