The Police Service Commission has redeployed the controversial Commissioner of Police in charge of the Rivers State Police Command, Mbu Joseph Mbu.
Mbu was redeployed to the Federal Capital Territory as the boss of the FCT Police Command.
He is to be replaced in Rivers State by the CP of the Special Fraud Unit, Johnson Ogunsakin.
There have been complaints in several quarters about the conduct of Mbu in the political crisis rocking Rivers State.
Many believe Mbu has the backing of the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, who is from Rivers State, and has shown more than a passing interest in political developments in the state.
The PSC, under the leadership of a former Inspector General of Police, Mike Okiro, also announced the redeployment of 11 other Commissioners of Police.
They include those of Ambrose Aisabo to Kwara State; Felix Uyanya to Ekiti State; Abdulmaji Ali to Imo State; Benjamin Onwuka to Kebbi State and Adamu Ibrahim to Abia State.
Others included Adenrele Shinaba to Kano State, Umaru Sheu to Kaduna State, and Ibrahim Idirs to Nasarawa State.
The statement, signed by Ferdinand Ekpe, added: “The Chairman of the Commission, Sir Mike Mbama Okiro, equally admonished the newly redeployed officers to put in their best in their various Commands’ operations, so as to provide a secure environment for business and life to thrive.”
