The National Industrial Court, has been informed that the discussion on an out of court settlement in the suit filed by a former Assistant Inspector-General of police, Mbu Joseph Mbu, against the Police Service Commission against his compulsory retirement, was still on going.
The announcement of their retirement was made by the Police Service Commission
The commandant also decried inadequate teaching and non-teaching staff in the colleges, which, according to him, remains a major problem
The submitted names are the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Intelligence, Solomon Erase; Suleiman Abba, the AIG in charge of Zone 7, Abuja; the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Administration, Suleiman Fakai; the DIG in charge of Operations, Michael Zokumuor; and the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Federal Capital Territory, Mbu Joseph Mbu
Earlier in the day, the Police High Command had also issued a statement saying there was no order banning peaceful protests
The denial followed the uproar that greeted that pronouncement by the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Mbu Joseph Mbu, that members of the Bring Back Our Girls campaign were no longer allowed to continue their protest in Abuja
He said after a group under the aegis of Bring Back Our Girls protested on April 28, another group, Release Our Girls, emerged
He said: “I want to make this pronouncement now: If you do not have a tinted glass vehicle permit, formally approved by the Inspector-General of Police and you are not permitted to have tinted glass in your vehicle, you have between today (Monday) and tomorrow (Tuesday) to remove it
Mbu made the remark on Monday at his maiden news conference at the FCT Police Command headquarters on assumption of duty
Both men made this denial at the passing out parade of some retired policemen, held at the Police College, Ikeja, Lagos State
Many believe Mbu has the backing of the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, who is from Rivers State, and has shown more than a passing interest in political developments in the state
Thousands of youths from Ubima and the four Ikwerre speaking Local Government Areas namely Ikwerre, Emuoha, Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt, staged a peaceful protest on Tuesday in support of Commissioner of Police Joseph Mbu, President Goodluck Jonathan and the PDP
Mbu’s roles in the crisis in Rivers State have been largely criticised by the All Progressives Congress and Amaechi, while the Peoples Democratic Party and Wike have been solidly behind him
In a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party wondered if the PSC understands the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as far as the role of a police commissioner is concerned
The APC said it is bare faced lie that Mbu told when he told the press the party had in the past obtained permission for its rallies but failed to do so for the Save Rivers Movement rally where Abe and Okocha were reportedly shot
While the police denied shooting Abe, sources in the state government, led by Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, who is now a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, having defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, said the senator was indeed shot
