The Rivers State Police Command has killed Gbarani Bume, popularly known as Pelele, a member of a popular cult group, Iceland Cult, during a gun-battle in Luawii, a community in Rivers State.
The Rivers State Police Command said he was arrested during an attempt to kidnap a Site Engineer on November 15, 2024.
The spokesperson of the Command and a Superintendent of Police, Grace Iringe-Koko, said Bume and his gang have been terrorising the Beree/Tabaa area of Khana Local Government Area of the State for a while now before the apprehension.
SP Iringe-Koko noted: “Pelele was fatally wounded, his accomplices escaped with various degrees of bullet wounds.”

The police also recovered some items from the suspected gang, which included one AK-47 rifle, two magazines, and 10 rounds of live ammunition.
The police also hinted that investigations are ongoing and the efforts are being made to apprehend other members of the gang at large.
