The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of a 90-year-old grandmother, Madam Helen Ojeogwu, by gunmen.
The command said the nonegerian was abducted from her home in Azungwu quarters, Ogwashi-Uku in Aniocha South Local Government Area of the state.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Celestina Kalu, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday via telephone that the victim was kidnapped last Monday by a six-man armed gang who operated in a Mitsubushi L300 bus.
Kalu said: “On July 27, 2015 at about 9.46pm, one Ojeogwu Chike of 24, Umuzu Street, Azungwu Quarters, Ogwashi-Uku, came to station and reported that one madam Ojeogwu Helen, aged 90 years, has been kidnapped.
“He said that the victim was kidnapped by six unknown gunmen who drove into the victim’s family compound in a dark blue 10-passenger Mitsubushi L300 bus with registration number unknown and took her away to an unknown destination.”
Kalu said upon the receipt of the report, the police dispatched an anti-robbery team to the scene.
The spokesperson said the command had intensified efforts to rescue the victim and arrest the culprits.
