Ten persons kidnapped in Ekiti State were on Saturday morning rescued from the hideout where their kidnappers held them.
However, while the police is claiming credit for the rescue of the kidnapped persons, including a lecturer of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Dr. Femi Omisore, a vigilante group in the state has said it rescued the victims.
The police in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu, said the victims were rescued by the operatives involved in the special operation ordered by the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase.
Ojukwu said the victims are being debriefed and receiving medical attention.
He equally said some kidnappers had been arrested and the operation is ongoing.
Ojukwu added: “The Police remain responsive and shall continue to apply proactive and prompt response measures to issues of crime nationwide.”
However, available report has it that the victims were rescued by vigilantes at Esure Ekiti.
The vigilante members were said to have taken the palace of the monarch of the town.
Others rescued apart from Omisore included three nurses.
A member of the vigilante group, who sought anonymity, told The Eagle Online that the police was nowhere near the den of the kidnappers when the victims were rescued.
